As you are aware, the SATs tests are an important measure of the attainment of each child as set out in the National Curriculum. The results from these tests are used by teachers at secondary schools to determine how best to support your child on entry, and will form part of our discussion with secondary teachers regarding the transition process.

To assist our Year 6 pupils in preparing for these assessments, we will be offering a free breakfast from 8:15 am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. This will provide an opportunity for the children to settle with their friends and staff before the tests commence. Please inform us of any dietary requirements your child may have.

We encourage all our pupils to take the tests at the same time. However, if your child is mildly ill on the day, we would still encourage them to join us for the test and then they may leave afterwards if necessary.

In the week before the SATs, we encourage you to help your child find time to relax, get plenty of sleep, and adjust their bedtime to ensure they are alert and ready in the morning. It is also important to talk to them about being relaxed, as this can help their brain to focus and support them in dealing with any nerves they may experience.

We would like to invite you to use our homework platform, where teachers have made available SAT’s booster material in mathematics and SPAG. In addition, the children will receive some arithmetic booklets that they can use for further practice.  Furthermore, some of our pupils will be invited to a booster class on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, where members of the Senior Leadership Team and Year 6 staff will provide targeted support. If your child qualifies for the booster class, you will receive a separate letter informing you about this.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns.

Yours Sincerely,

Karen Turner
