Gypsy, Roma, Traveller History Month

News

1st June 2024

In June Newburgh participated in Gypsy, Roma, Traveller History Month.

Children appreciated the art and designs of the Gypsy and Traveller community. Children understand how the designs have been developed through the history and culture of the Gypsy and Traveller community.
The artwork created by year groups was outstanding and it was great to see the range of interpretations of the theme 'What does family mean to you?'

Newburgh's work was displayed at local Warwickshire libraries then, at an event at Police Headquarters in Leek Wootton. Members of the public and local schools visited the exhibitions.

As a thank you we received the book "The Can Caravan" by Richard O'Neill, Romani storyteller who celebrates through this book traditional Traveller virtues of resilience, adaptability, loyalty and independence. This book will be available for children to read in our school library.
