The School Day

Arrival at School
Children arrive on the playground no earlier than 8.45 am for an 8.55 am start. Teachers are on duty from 8.45 am and children are able to enter school immediately upon arrival.

Break time
Break time is at 10.40 am.

Children in Reception and Key Stage 1 have the opportunity to eat a selection of free fresh fruit or vegetables and a drink of milk, for which there is a small charge. Children in Key Stage 2 may bring in fruit, or purchase an item from the tuck shop. Children may bring a healthy cereal bar to supplement their fruit intake if required.

Between break and lunchtime
After break children take part in either Mathematics or English lessons, where they may have the opportunity to hone their mental arithmetic skills using the interactive whiteboards. They might also get a chance to use a range of Mathematics games, our excellent Maths resources, or use a range of support apparatus.
Lunchtime
Lunchtimes take place between 12.15pm and 1.15pm.

After they have eaten, children have time to play or get involved with a lunchtime club..

Our playgrounds are extensively marked with games or puzzles for children to complete. In fine weather we also take out giant board games and make use of our large playing fields. Younger children may also be taught new playground games by older children who contribute as ‘Young Play Leaders’ to make lunchtimes more enjoyable.

Our Sports Coach encourages active participation in team games.

Afternoon
At 1.15 pm  we start our afternoon activities. During the afternoon sessions, children might be involved in Music, Art, Humanities, Personal Social and Health Education lessons, or Physical Education activities. During the afternoon sessions, children are involved in working on their Topic Work. This is a cross curricular approach where children work towards extending their knowledge and understanding of topic areas and application of basic skills.

Acts of Worship
At 10.25 am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday  we meet for assembly across school.
Assemblies take place as ‘whole school or phase assemblies’.
Assemblies are also used to share achievement or a time when we welcome visitors. Assemblies are planned over the course of the year and arranged into themes. There are opportunities for stories, hymns or songs and quiet reflection and prayer. A longer whole school assembly takes place on a Friday at 9am.
